Virtual Alabama Forum

by Chris Johnson last modified May 19, 2010 11:35 AM

The Virtual Alabama Collaboration Forum is the place for the Virtual Alabama user community to find information, news, and events relating to spatial data and services in the State of Alabama.

The forum also serves as a gathering place for users to share new and innovative ideas and new ways of leveraging the Virtual Alabama technology.

The forum is relevant to people inside the government who are:

 - Utilize Virtual Alabama for Situational Awareness and Understanding

 - Geographic Information System (GIS) professionals
 - Users of Geographic Information
 - Developers of applications that include mapping, location based services, or geocoding functionalities

The Virtual Alabama team regularly contributes to the site information relating to our own initiatives, datasets, and online application development.  In addition, Virtual Alabama publishes the latest 'spatial' news and events as we hear of them.  Users are able to contribute content and provide feedback on all these items directly in a way that promotes discussion and transparency.  Please check out our Members section.  This area contains departmental information and a wealth of other information such as downloads, departmental missions with regard to Virtual Alabama, project fact sheets, team photos and bios, and news and events, along with a host of other goodies.

The Virtual Alabama Collaboration Forum is fully interactive; you can add your own articles, news, events, and maps simply by signing up and entering them in.

Get comfortable

After that, we suggest you do one or more of the following:

  • Find out what the MEMBERS are up to by navigating to the MEMBERS section.
  • Explore the available downloads sections for new tools developed by the Team and Virtual Alabama Members just like you.
  • Read and/or subscribe to the support forums.

Make it your own

The Virtual Alabama Forum and Plone have a lot of different settings that can be used to make it do what you want it to. Some examples:

  • Explore new ways of adding different elements to your space such as information about your projects, images, files, etc.
  • By default, Plone uses a visual editor for content. (If you prefer text-based syntax and/or wiki syntax, you can change this in the markup control panel)

Tell us how you use Virtual Alabama

Are you doing something interesting with the Virtual Alabama Forum?  Big project deployments, interesting use cases?  Does your team build and contribute data to Virtual Alabama that may be of use to others in the Virtual Alabama Community.  Let us know!  Users can add content, images, files etc.  Help us keep other users informed.  The Virtual Alabama Collaboration Forum is a custom "wiki" type application that delivers information to you about new and exciting ways of using Virtual Alabama!

  • Add information to your space.  We all want to learn what you have been doing with Virtual Alabama.
